Your ceiling rose is supplied without a pre-cut centre hole — and that's intentional. Because light fittings, cables and mounting positions vary from home to home, leaving the centre open means you can create the exact opening you need for a perfect, tailored installation.

What You Will Need

Strong grab adhesive suitable for plaster, pencil, tape measure, drill, suitable drill bit or hole saw, fine sandpaper, clean cloth, and optional temporary supports or two small screws.

Before You Begin

Turn off the electricity at the consumer unit before working near any wiring. Remove or loosen the light fitting where necessary. Check that the ceiling is clean, dry, dust-free and structurally sound. We always recommend using a qualified electrician for any electrical work.

How to Drill the Centre Hole

Place the ceiling rose face-up on a flat, fully supported surface. Measure and mark the centre carefully. Select a drill bit or hole saw that matches the required cable or light-fitting opening. Drill slowly from the decorative front through to the back using light, steady pressure. Do not force the drill. Smooth the edge gently with fine sandpaper.

How to Fit the Ceiling Rose

Test-fit the ceiling rose first and mark its position on the ceiling. Apply a generous but controlled amount of strong grab adhesive to the rear, keeping it away from the outer edge so it does not squeeze out. Press the ceiling rose firmly and evenly against the ceiling. Hold it in position according to the adhesive manufacturer's instructions. For additional support while curing, use temporary supports or two small screws where appropriate. Remove any excess adhesive immediately.

Finishing

Allow the adhesive to cure fully before reconnecting or fitting the light. Fill any small gaps around the edge with decorator's caulk. The ceiling rose can then be primed and painted to match your ceiling perfectly.
